The Memory System

The deeper it remembers, the more it understands.

Patternwise builds a living memory of your inner world as you write. Not just what you said — who you mentioned, what shifted, what keeps coming back.

What gets remembered

Your journal, filed into structured memory.

Every entry is read and sorted into eight kinds of memory — the same types you see in your sidebar. Each is its own window onto what the journal has noticed about you.

ME

  • Self-Portrait

A living portrait of who you are, updated as you write.

  • Patterns

Recurring themes across entries, scored for confidence.

MEMORIES

  • People

Everyone who recurs — and the emotional weather around them.

  • Parts

Inner voices: the critic, the protector, the anxious kid.

  • Events

Anchoring moments and how they ripple through everything after.

DREAMS

  • Archetypes

Recurring figures, read through a depth-psychology lens.

  • Symbols

Images that keep returning — water, doors, the road.

INSIGHTS

  • Timeline

Every memory and pattern laid along a single thread.

Tracked vs. Reflected

Saved is not the same as understood.

A memory can be tracked — saved and shown in your sidebar — without yet being reflected into your conversations. Depth is how deeply a memory is recalled when you write. It fills in five stops.

Tracked

Sidebar only

Saved & shown in your sidebar — not yet reflected in conversations.

Light

Reflected

Recent surface only. The gist is recalled, little context.

Moderate

Reflected

More detail per entry, pulled into conversations when relevant.

Deep

Reflected

Rich context across months — connections start to surface.

Deepest

Reflected

The full read: every detail, every link, the longest memory.

Two axes of depth

Context grows in
two directions.

Depth is not one dial. Memory reaches further back and reads each entry more closely. Together they decide how much of your story is in the room when you write.

Horizon — how far back

30 days, 6 months, or a full 2 years. A longer window catches the patterns that move with the seasons of your life.

Reflection — how deeply

From Light to Deepest. More memory types unlock, and more detail from each entry is pulled into the conversation.

More area = more of your story in context = a more accurate, higher-quality reflection.

The depth matrix

Every memory type, by plan.

Each memory kind has its own depth curve. Some are available at all tiers. Others require higher plans to be recalled — not because they are not stored, but because surfacing them at scale requires more model context.

Depth, in practice

Same entry. Different depth.

The same journal entry reads very differently depending on how much the system can hold. Below, the same message from two different plan tiers — same words, different context, different conversation.

EssentialsModerate · 30 days

Felt off again today. Didn't say much at dinner.

Patternwise

Sounds like a quiet, heavy day. Want to say more about what felt off at dinner?

Recent surface only — it works with what is right in front of it.

InsightDeepest · 2 years

Felt off again today. Didn't say much at dinner.

Patternwise

That's the fourth Sunday you've gone quiet at dinner — usually after a hard week with M. It's the same self-silencing we named back in March, when saying it out loud early actually helped. Want to try that here?

The full read — it connects today to people, events and patterns across the last 2 years.

Start at 30 days.

Go as deep as you like.

Every plan saves what you write. Your depth and horizon grow with your subscription. The memory is always there and increasing per tier — the question is how much of it surfaces.
